This 14k gold vintage medallion features a fabulous bas relief of the New York City skyline. The medallion consists of two gold layers stacked on top of each other for depth and dimensionality. The back layer, which is shiny high polish gold, contains a rising sun, while the front layer, which has a beautiful matte finish, is textured and depicts the Statue of Liberty, sky scrapers, and a boat cruising along the water. The matte finish creates the illusion of moving water and contrasts beautifully against the glossy background. This classic scene of NYC at dawn captures an optimistic view of the city and all that it has to offer.
“Yvonne 1980” is engraved on the back of the medallion, suggesting that this pendant was a souvenir from an important trip to the Big Apple, or perhaps commemorated a young woman’s move to the city. It also contains the unidentified maker’s mark “J”.
The little boat on the water contains five bead set rubies, 1.25mm in size. The medallion is 1 1/4” across with a depth of 1/4” at its thicket point— the Statue of Liberty’s torch is completely raised above the medallion for a charming 3D detail. The oversized bail is 7.8 x 9.6 mm. The pendant weighs 12.4 grams.
Circa 1980.
