14K Gold Etruscan Revival Garnet Cabochon Pendant
This is a beautiful 14K Gold Etruscan Revival Garnet Cabochon Pendant. A round gold disc decorated with concentric circles of twisted wire work are some of the defining features in this Etruscan revival piece. Four garnet cabochons make a quatrefoil pattern in the center, they are bezel set and detailed with a central seed pearl and a twisted wire cross. The oval garnets are 10mm x 7.5mm each and there are approximately 4 carats of total weight. This piece is 1 1/2" tall including the bale and 1/14" in diameter and about 3/8 " thick, it weighs 6.4 grams. There is evidence that this piece was once a brooch on the reverse. Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wire and beading. The news of the excavation of these tombs, and the treasures contained inside them, spread throughout Europe. Etruscan Revival jewelry quickly rose to popularity with the people of Victorian Era.
