10K Black Hills Gold Grape Leaf Ring
A great three-toned unisex gold ring featuring the traditional Black Hills grape leaf pattern on the front. The leaves are a combination of rose, green and yellow gold on a band that is generously sized. The ring has nice detail and is marked on the underside and interior of the band with "Black Hills Gold" "JCO" and "10K".
Made in the 1970’s this piece is modeled after the grape leaf pattern that was popular in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Black Hills Gold was made part of the official South Dakota state jewelry in the 1980s. There is a curious story of how the Black Hills Gold design of the grape leaves came to be: A French goldsmith named Henri LeBeau who came out in the 1870s during the gold rush dreamed about the pattern as he was passing out from dehydration and starvation during on a failed trip out west, or it was said to be from memories it was of the vineyards of France.Either way the stuff of legends. The leaf motif is most definitely a pattern of abundance and prosperity!
Black HiIls Gold is unique and only made of an alloy of gold with standard yellow gold as well as green and pink gold. The ring weighs 7.5 grams. The ring is a size 9, making it a nice unisex ring. This ring has a fantastic history and is a wonderful piece for any antique collection.
