Edwardian 18K Gold and Platinum Sapphire and Diamond Ring

$3,600.00

An English Edwardian ring from the year 1913. The ring is platinum and 18k gold with a large sapphire as its centerpiece surrounded by six Old European Cut diamonds. The natural sapphire is a lively, bright cobalt blue with beautiful saturation. The stone pops against the sparkling white diamonds and platinum setting. The ring has gorgeous shoulder work—the scrolling foliate on the sides of the carriage become the prongs that hold the stones in place, making the design integral to the structure of the ring. Though prong set, the stones lay flush against each other, creating a level field of gems that resembles an eye. The carriage and band are 18k gold and compliment the platinum face of the ring.

The natural sapphire is 1.75 carats and measures 7.75 x 6.5 x 4.2 mm. It is a deep stone, which is why it gathers so much blue. The six natural diamonds are Old European Cut and range in size from 3.4 - 2.7 mm. In total there is .75 of a carat of diamonds. They are bright and lively, H-I in color, VS2 - SI1 in clarity. The ring weighs 4.58 grams.

The ring contains the anchor mark for Birmingham, as well as the date mark for 1913. It acid tests as platinum and 18k gold.

Ring size 7.25. The ring can be sized up or down one size.
