18K Gold Hand-Painted Enamel Jesus Medallion

$350.00

Delicately painted on the front of this medallion is an image of Jesus pointing to the Sacred Heart. Behind it is a beautiful cobalt blue enamel halo, and the entire piece is offset with a creamy white enamel line surrounding the medallion’s border. The detail of this image, painted by hand, is astounding for how tiny it is. Even the figure’s fingers and eyelashes can be seen when looked at closely. The enamel is flush mount, meaning that a divot was engraved into the medallion so that the enamel would lie flush to the surface. The Sacred Heart is a symbol of “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind” and has been used for centuries in religious art and architecture.

Most likely from Europe, this medallion is from the Art Deco period of the 1920-30’s. On the back, the date 5-25-1932 has been engraved, along with the initials ECG.

The medallion weighs 1.7 grams and has a diameter of 5/8”. The bail is 3.1X6.1mm.
